Hangar Clinic is the patient care segment of Hanger, Inc., a publicly traded company headquartered in Austin, Texas. Teter Orthotics & Prosthetics is a subsidiary of Hanger Clinic. Headquartered in Traverse City, Michigan, Teter Orthotics & Prosthetics provides its patients with orthotic and prosthetic care through its 12 Michigan clinic locations.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On October 11, 2022, Hanger Clinic discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in Teter Orthotics & Prosthetics’ systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Hanger Clinic determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information through a Microsoft 365 account of a Teter Orthotics & Prosthetics employee. Recently, Hanger Clinic began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Date(s) of service
- Medical record number
- Treatment history
- Prescription information
- Health insurance information
- Driver’s license number
