With its campus located in Country Homes, Washington, Whitworth University employs approximately 150 faculty members and has an enrollment of more than 2,900 students. Whitworth University’s endowment is estimated to be over $200 million.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On July 29, 2022, Whitworth University discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and obtained. Through its investigation, Whitworth University determined that unauthorized actors may have accessed and acquired this information by launching a ransomware attack. On October 4, 2022, Whitworth University began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
- Passport number
- Health insurance information
