Charlotte Radiology is a radiology practice in Charlotte, North Carolina. Charlotte Radiology employs over 120 radiologists and advanced practice providers and performs or analyzes more than 1.7 million radiology studies every year. Charlotte Radiology performs these studies for 15 hospitals, more than 25 imaging centers and numerous health care providers. Additionally, Charlotte Radiology owns and operates 16 breast centers, a mobile breast center program, two vein centers, as well as several vascular and interventional radiology sites. Charlotte Radiology also jointly owns five other radiology centers and supervises and manages the operations of Carolinas Imaging Services, LLC, which provides imaging services in Charlotte, Rock Hill, and Huntersville.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On December 24, 2021, Charlotte Radiology experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its system may have been accessed and obtained. Through its investigation, Charlotte Radiology determined that an unknown actor accessed and obtained this sensitive personal information between December 17 and December 24, 2021. Charlotte Radiology also determined that the data breach impacted patients of Carolinas Imaging Services, LLC. Recently, Charlotte Radiology began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Address
- Date of birth
- Medical record number
- Health insurance information
- Patient account number
- Diagnosis and/or treatment information
