ABOUT WORLD LEARNING INC.:
World Learning is a non-governmental organization that specializes in global development, education and exchange programs. The organization was founded in 1932 with the launch of “The Experiment in International Living,” an exchange program for American students to experience new cultures and expand their worldview. In 1964, World Learning established the School for International Training (SIT), offering accredited undergraduate study abroad programs and internationally focused master’s degrees. Today, World Learning non-profit global development and exchange arm oversees 92 programs with participants from 162 countries.2 Headquartered in Washington, DC, World Learning has an additional location in Brattleboro, Vermont.
WHAT HAPPENED?
In June 2023, World Learning discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, World Learning determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed and acquired this sensitive information between April 20, 2023, and June 6, 2023. In November 2023, World Learning began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
