Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating American Trading and Production Corporation, which does business as Atapco, regarding its recent data breach. The Atapco data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to over 3,600 individuals.

Atapco is a privately owned real estate company operating in the commercial, industrial, and residential sectors. Founded by the Blaustein family, the owners of the American Oil Company, Atapco was created as a means to expand the scope of the Blaustein family’s business operations.2 In 1931, American Trading and Production Corporation was formed, and the company expanded into new industries, such as commercial real estate development and operation. Today, Atapco’s business is in the acquisition, development, and operation of high-quality real estate properties.2 Operating as Atapco Properties, the company owns and operates commercial, industrial, residential, and mixed-use properties in North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, and Indiana. 2 Headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, Atapco employs over 50 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Between May 4 and May 5, 2022, Atapco discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, Atapco determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed and acquired this sensitive information through a malware attack between February 17, 2022, and May 5, 2022. Recently, Atapco began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
