OrthoAlaska Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating OrthoAlaska, LLC regarding its recent data breach. The OrthoAlaska data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to over 161,000 individuals.

ABOUT ORTHOALASKA, LLC:

OrthoAlaska, the parent company of Orthopedic Physicians Alaska and Primary Care Associates, is a healthcare provider in Alaska. Specifically, OrthoAlaska is an integrated group of orthopedic surgeons, rheumatologists, and primary care physicians.5 Founded in 1966, Orthopedic Physicians Alaska offers patients comprehensive musculoskeletal services, including orthopedics, rheumatology, sports medicine, physical therapy, rehabilitation, hand therapy, and pain management. With locations in Anchorage, Eagle River, Wasilla, and Soldotna, Orthopedic Physicians Alaska offers its patients throughout Alaska the latest, most advanced treatment procedures available.5 Founded in 1992, Primary Care Associates consists of a group of family practice providers that offer their patients comprehensive primary care and urgent care services. Headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska, Primary Care Associates treats patients and its three Anchorage office locations in Lake Otis, South Anchorage, and Eagle Creek.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On October 12, 2022, OrthoAlaska discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, OrthoAlaska determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information on September 6, 2022. On October 11, 2023, OrthoAlaska began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Driver’s license number
  • Financial account number (i.e., payment card number, account number, and routing number)
  • Medical information
  • Health insurance information
