a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Potlatch No. 1 Financial Credit Union, which does business as P1FCU, regarding its recent data breach. The P1FCU data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.
ABOUT POTLATCH NO. 1 FINANCIAL CREDIT UNION:
P1CFU is a not-for-profit financial cooperative that provides a wide range of financial services to residents of Idaho and the greater Pacific Northwest. Accordingly, P1FCU offers its customers personal banking services as well as several financial products such as certificates of deposit, checking and saving accounts, loans, and credit cards. Founded in 1938, P1FCU was formed when 12 employees of Potlatch Forest Incorporated pooled their money to provide loans to those not serviced by big banks.2 Today, P1FCU has grown to be one of the largest credit unions in the state of Idaho. Headquartered in Lewiston, Idaho, P1FCU operates in 27 different Idaho and Oregon counties, as well as the entirety of Washington.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On July 13, 2023, P1FCU discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information in its system may have been accessed. Through its investigation, P1FCU determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information through a vulnerability in the MOVEit file sharing platform used by one of P1FCU’s vendors on or around May 31, 2023. On September 8, 2023, P1FCU began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Address
- Credit card number
- P1FCU member number
