Lifeline Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Lifeline Systems Company regarding its recent data breach. The Lifeline data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to over 74,000 individuals.

ABOUT LIFELINE SYSTEMS COMPANY:

Lifeline is a medical device manufacturer that specializes in medical alert systems and services. As the first company to provide medical alert service in North America, Lifeline helps seniors and individuals with medical conditions to live independently while having access to emergency assistance. Founded in 1974, Lifeline’s medical alert systems feature wearable devices with buttons that, when pressed, connect the user to a call center staffed by trained operators who dispatch help or contact designated emergency services. Currently, Lifeline has one of the largest subscriber bases of medical alert companies and has provided services to more than 7.5 million people. Headquartered in Framingham, Massachusetts, Lifeline employs over 200 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On August 6, 2022, Lifeline discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Lifeline determined that an unknown actor may have accessed this sensitive information between July 27, 2022, and August 6, 2022. On September 7, 2023, Lifeline began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license number
  • Medical information
  • Health insurance information
  • Dates of birth
  • Passport number
