HealthEC Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating HealthEC, LLC regarding its recent data breach. The HealthEC data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to over 1 million individuals.

ABOUT HEALTHEC, LLC:

HealthEC is a healthcare technology company specializing in software solutions for healthcare providers. Founded in 2010, HealthEC offers an AI-enabled Population Health Management (PHM) platform to help healthcare providers collect and analyze patient data. With 26 clients in 18 states, HealthEC’s PHM platform is used by over 1 million healthcare professionals and has over 8 million members.3 Headquartered in Edison, New Jersey, HealthEC has one location and employs over 50 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, HealthEC discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, HealthEC determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed and acquired this sensitive information between July 14 and July 23, 2023. On October 26, 2023, HealthEC began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Taxpayer ID number
  • Medical information (e.g., medical record number, diagnosis, diagnosis code, mental/physical condition, prescription information, providers name and location)
  • Health insurance information (e.g., beneficiary number, subscriber number, Medicaid/Medicare identification number)
  • Billings and claims information (e.g., patient account number, patient ID number, treatment cost information)
