PFG is a distribution company based in Virgina specializing in food and foodservice products. Founded in 1885, PFG has grown into one of the largest foodservice distributors in the North America, serving over 300,000 customer locations across the United States and Canada.2 Delivering to restaurants, schools, healthcare facilities, and other businesses, PFG offers over 125,000 different food and food related products, including, meats, seafood, produce, cheese and dairy, baked goods, spices, beverages, equipment, and various other supplies.3 Headquartered in Richmond, Virgina, PFG has more than 150 locations across the United States and employs over 22,000 individuals.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On June 21, 2023, PFG discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, PFG determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information through company email accounts beginning on May 16, 2023. Recently, PFG began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The exact type of personal information impacted has not been made publicly available by PFG. However, according to state reporting guidelines, “personal information” can include the following types of information:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
- Financial account number
- Credit or debit card number
- Passport number
