Five Guys Data Breach Investigation

ABOUT FIVE GUYS ENTERPRISES, LLC:

Five Guys is an American fast food restaurant franchise offering burgers, fries, and shakes. Founded in 1986 in Arlington, Virginia, Five Guys originated as a single carry-out burger restaurant offering fresh, hand-formed burgers and fresh-cut fries cooked in peanut oil. Through the 80s and 90s, Five Guys opened four more restaurants with sit-down seating in the D.C. metro area. In 2003, Five Guys began offering franchise opportunities in Virginia and Maryland and, in a span of 18 months, sold options for more than 300 franchise units. Five Guys has continued to expand and, today, has more than 1,700 locations and employs over 5,000 individuals worldwide.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Five Guys discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Five Guys determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information through two employee email accounts between March 20 and March 31, 2023 and May 31 and June 7, 2023. On October 27, 2023, Five Guys began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted.

  • Social Security number
