Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America (“TIAA”) regarding its recent data breach. The TIAA data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to over 2,600,000 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?
On June 28, 2023, TIAA discovered that Pension Benefit Information, LLC (“PBI”), a third-party vender used by TIAA, experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to TIAA customers may have been accessed. Through its investigation, PBI determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed the sensitive information belonging to TIAA’s clients through a vulnerability in the MOVEit file transfer platform used by PBI between May 29 and May 30, 2023. On July 14, 2023, PBI began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
