Accordingly, Palmar Health provides medical services in primary care, urgent care, emergency services, cardiovascular care, cancer, women’s health, orthopedics, behavioral health, rehabilitation services, and more through its two medical centers in Escondido and Poway, California. Additionally, Palomar Health operates a number of outpatient centers, specialty care facilities, and skilled nursing homes, including Palomar Continuing Care Center in Escondido and The Villas at Poway (Villa Pomerado). Founded in 1948, Palomar Health employs over 5,000 individuals and treats over 500,000 people.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, Palomar Health was notified that its vendor, PharMerica, experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, PharMerica determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed and obtained this sensitive information between March 12 and 13, 2023 by launching a ransomware attack. This sensitive information included information belonging to individuals who received services at Palomar Continuing Care Center in Escondido and The Villas at Poway (Villa Pomerado) between 2001 and 2020. On June 21, 2023, Palomar Health began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:
- Name
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Address
- Medical information (e.g., medications)
- Health insurance information
