Mondelēz Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Mondelēz Global LLC regarding its recent data breach. The Mondelēz data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information belonging to over 51,000 current or former employees.

Mondelēz is a leading multinational snack, cookie, and chocolate manufacturer. Founded in 2012, Mondelēz is a relatively young company, but it builds on the foundation of several predecessors which date back over 100 years. With well-known brands including Oreo, Ritz, Kraft, Clif Bar, Cadbury Dairy Milk, and Toblerone, Mondelēz products are consumed in over 150 countries. Consequently, Mondelēz ranks #1 globally among producers of biscuits and #2 globally among producers of chocolates. In 2022, Mondelēz had a global net revenue of approximately $31.5 billion. To support its operations, Mondelēz employs 91,000 individuals in its factories, offices, research & development facilities, and distribution locations in over 80 countries.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On March 24, 2023, Mondelēz discovered that Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP, a law firm that Mondelēz retained legal services from, experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information of current and former Mondelēz employees that Mondelēz shared with Bryan Cave may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Mondelēz concluded that this sensitive information was accessed at various times between February 23, 2023 and March 1, 2023. On May 22, 2023, Mondelēz began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Employee identification number
