Benefit Management Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Benefit Management, LLC, which also does business as Value Health Benefit Administrators, regarding its recent data breach. The Benefit Management data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to an undetermined number of individuals.

Benefit Management is a data-driven healthcare services company and nation-wide leader in third-party benefits administration. Accordingly, Benefit Management works with federal and state agencies to deliver custom benefits programs. Founded in 1995, Benefit Management offers its clients health plan administration, self-funded insurance, partial self-funding, population health management, small group insurance, and association health plans. Headquartered in Great Bend, Kansas, Benefit Management provides services for thousands of individuals in all 50 states.

WHAT HAPPENED?

On or about April 1, 2022, Benefit Management determined it had experienced a data breach in which the sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed. Through its investigation, Benefit Management determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information between March 14 and April 2, 2022. On June 6, 2023, Benefit Management began contacting individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Medical information (e.g., diagnosis/condition, prescription information, medical record number, Medicare/Medicaid identification number)
  • Health insurance information
  • Claims information
