WHAT HAPPENED?
Recently, UC San Diego Health reported that its technology vendor, Solv Health, had experienced a data breach impacting an unknown number of individuals. Solv Health is responsible for UC San Diego Health’s Urgent Care and Express Care scheduling. The data breach involved the protected health information of users who may have used UC San Diego Health’s platform between September 13 and December 22, 2022. UC San Diego Health disclosed that an online information tracking pixel installed on its website collected and transmitted this protected health information to the third parties providing the pixel technology, including Meta (Facebook) and Google. The type of information impacted includes:
- Name
- Contact information (e.g., email address)
- Health insurance information (e.g., plan type)
- Date of birth
- IP address
- Third-party cookies
- Medical information (e.g., reason for visit, treatment information)
