Canopy Children’s Solutions Data Breach Investigation

Turke & Strauss LLP, a leading data breach law firm, is investigating Mississippi Children’s Home Society, CARES Center, Inc., Mississippi Children’s Home Services, Inc. which does business as Canopy Children’s Solutions (“Canopy”) regarding its recent data breach. The Canopy data breach involved sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information belonging to over 19,000 individuals.

Canopy is a children and family services company based in Mississippi. Founded in 1912, Canopy offers a full continuum of behavioral health solutions, from specialized behavioral health clinics to early intervention autism programs, all tailored to meet the complex mental and behavioral health needs of children.3 Additionally, Canopy’s educational solutions, including specialized schools and innovative learning programs, are designed to cater to the diverse educational needs of children.3 Headquartered in Jackson, Mississippi, Canopy employs over 200 individuals.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Recently, Canopy discovered that it had experienced a data breach in which sensitive personal identifiable information and protected health information in its systems may have been accessed and acquired. Through its investigation, Canopy determined that an unauthorized actor may have accessed this sensitive information on April 4, 2023. On February 2, 2024, Canopy gave notice of the breach via its website and on April 11, 2024, began notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The type of information potentially exposed includes:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Driver’s license or state identification number
  • Financial account information
  • Medical information 
  • Health insurance information
